IRIS Group has been awarded a permanent national approval for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAS)/Drone operations for the electricity powerline grid throughout Norway. Norway has more than 400,000 kilometres of powerlines and such approval for UAS is quite unique in Norway and indeed across Europe.

“We highly appreciate the trust placed in us by the Norwegian CAA in granting this ground breaking BVLOS approval and the opportunity it brings to this new emerging technology to deliver cutting edge UAS operations, that benefit our clients in the energy industry”, IRIS Group CEO Neil Hunter states.

IRIS Group has achieved this approval as the preferred UAS partner to the Connected Drone project led by eSmart Systems in Norway, with the long-term aim of providing autonomous airborne powerline inspections to the Norwegian powerline companies.
